I recently had the chance to explore Khan Academy Kids with my child, and it’s quickly become one of our go-to educational apps. Designed for children ages 2-8, this app offers a comprehensive library of learning resources that are entirely free, with no ads or subscription fees.
One of the most impressive aspects of Khan Academy Kids is the wealth of content it provides. With over 5,000 lessons and interactive games, there’s always something new to engage my child. The app covers a broad range of subjects, including reading, math, and creative activities, all presented through charming characters like Kodi the Bear and Ollo the Elephant. My child particularly enjoys storytime sessions with Reya the Red Panda, who makes learning to read and write an enjoyable experience. The math games, led by characters like Peck the Hummingbird and Sandy the Dingo, are both fun and educational, helping to build a strong foundation in basic math skills.
The reading section of Khan Academy Kids is another highlight. The app’s extensive library is filled with educational books that cater to preschoolers, kindergarteners, and early elementary students. Covering a wide range of topics—from animals and science to trucks and dinosaurs—the selection is both diverse and engaging. The “Read To Me” feature is especially useful, allowing books to be read aloud, which is perfect for children who are still developing their reading skills. Additionally, the availability of books in both English and Spanish adds a valuable bilingual element.
What sets Khan Academy Kids apart is its versatility and ease of use. Whether at home or on the go, the app provides plenty of opportunities for my child to continue learning. The offline access feature is particularly convenient, enabling learning without the need for an internet connection. This makes it an excellent companion for long trips or situations where Wi-Fi isn’t available.
In terms of safety and educational quality, Khan Academy Kids truly excels. Developed by experts in early childhood education, the app aligns with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and Common Core Standards. It’s also COPPA-compliant, ensuring that children’s privacy is always protected. Knowing that the app is 100% free with no ads or in-app purchases means there are no distractions—just pure, uninterrupted learning.
Overall, Khan Academy Kids is an outstanding educational resource that I highly recommend. It’s not just a great tool for at-home learning, but also a valuable asset for teachers in the classroom. The app’s extensive content, thoughtful design, and commitment to providing high-quality, free education make it an exceptional choice for supporting any child’s early learning journey.

This app has been great for supplementing my kids’ learning. I have kiddos ranging from 4 to 12 and there is content here for all of them. The great thing is that the content adapts based on how the children are doing, making sure to stick around on areas they’re struggling with and moving on in areas they are mastering. Also, each new lesson doesn’t just stick to one area (i.e. just math or just phonics) but instead moves around so that kids don’t get burnt out or frustrated.

I absolutely love this program! My 3 – and 5-year-olds have been enjoying it so much! The only complaint I have is that sometimes the app will suddenly crash in the middle of a lesson. Maybe a bug that needs to be fixed? Otherwise, it’s a great learning app.
